Please pray!

During the last day of camp, my camera malfunctioned and broke. I have had it over 3 years now and have taken around 84,000 pictures on it, so it has served me well! It is in the process of getting fixed, but it is a rather long process -- an estimated 4-6 weeks. And considering that I am leaving for China a week from today (and would really like to take a camera with me!) I am in the midst of camera shopping. There are so many details! If you think of me and would pray for much wisdom, I would appreciate it greatly.

I am extremely grateful that it waited to break until the last day of camp, and that it didn't wait to happen until I was already in China. Though it wasn't what I would've wished, I am thankful for the Lord's timing in it all, and look forward to seeing His hand at work in the whole situation.

"By Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God,
that is, the fruit of our lips,
giving thanks to His name."
Hebrews 13:15

I'm so sorry to hear that!! Hopefully you can find a good one to replace it. Just a quick question/recommendation...I got mine through Ritz and have gotten insurance on it which covers anything except fire or theft. YOu may have this too, I don't know but I like knowing I have it if anything would happen. I wil pray that you can find a new one, I know I'd about go crazy if I didn't have my camera, it was bad enough when my film camera was acting up and was so nice when I was able to buy the digital and have a camera that works good again. Good luck!!

You are so sweet about it, although I'm sure you're dissapointed! I'll be praying for you.

Bless your heart! Ebay yielded me a wonderful "deal" that I have been pleased with for 2 1/2 years. And I second the Ritz insurance. God will work it and see the way that it will happen! :)

Oh Bethany!

I'm so sorry for you, that's got to be really hard. May God bless you as you look for a new camera. May He bless with a wonderful deal that you can't even imagine. I'm sure this will be an intense week as you look for a camera and get ready to leave. I'm feeling for you just now...and wow, 84,000 is a whole LOTTA pictures. *grin*

Do let us know when you decide what you decide, even if you have to let us know after you're back from China.

Oh, I'm feeling for you right now...I saw the first line and literally gasped outloud. I was like "no it can't be!"

Love you!

Sorry about the camera. You will probably get way too many suggestions so obviously I should make one more.

Traveling overseas? Pack light. They make a number of smaller cameras, some of them quite good. Canon has a 560 or 570? series for around $150 (or less on sale) - 7 or 8 megapix. They are compact and have enough resolution for good 8x10, even with cropping.

They have an optical viewfinder which very few smaller cameras do any more so you can turn off your screen except when you really need it. And it has a 4 times OPTICAL zoom (a lot are only three.) This is about as far as you can go comfortably without a tripod - (don't forget the string trick -it's not a tripod but packs easily and works.)

Remember the picture is in you - the camera only records it. An idiot with the most expensive camera will probably still take lousy pictures. But you have the vision. So put aside the photographer's ego and at least look at something other than a large Nikon - especially for this kind of travel.

Remember, my advice is biodegradable so use it as you will. Prayers and best thoughts go with you and Rachel.

My Nikon and I took that picture of that beautiful young lady! :) And only 84,000 pictures, Bethany? I'm surprised. I thought it would be at least a six digit number! ;)

Love ya!!
