Countdown to a miracle

Due date is a week from tomorrow and we are so excited about meeting this lil' blessing that the Lord has given us! 
I'm continuing to feel well and find my heart overflowing with gratitude for such a wonderful husband. The other night I told him how thankful I was for his understanding and patience with me and he replied: "And who was patient with me during the last several years during my intense school schedule?"  We take turns ministering to the needs of the other! 

Seasons of love can be such a beautiful thing, so I'm trying to take the time to enjoy and appreciate my man and what we have TODAY. Our lives are about to drastically change. They already have, somewhat, as I've been slowing down significantly the last month and just can't do everything that I'm used to being able to do.

On one hand I find myself wishing for the energy I used to have...or that my feet didn't ache so much...or that I didn't tire so easily... but instead of focusing on what I used to be able to accomplish, I choose to focus on the miracle of feeling life inside and what a precious gift I've been given! And Dan daily impresses me with his thoughtfulness and understanding as he spoils me and demonstrates his love for me in so many ways and continually encourages and prays for me. I'm incredibly blessed and humbled that I get to explore this adventure of parenting with such an amazing man of God by my side!

super cuteness

After seeing this on pinterest, I knew I wanted to make one, too -- but with a few revisions to make it a baby quilt!


After making a few rough sketches to figure out measurements and how much fabric was needed -- it was time to do a lil' shopping!


What a fabulous mix of colors...


and of course -- what is a project without someone to give their opinion and assistance?!

It was such a blast having Anna here for over a week while Dan was in California. Not only did we have fun working on this project t.o.g.e.t.h.e.r,
(oh why, oh why do Virginia and Nebraska have to be so far apart?)
but we also spent much time in the kitchen making a few ol' favorite recipes, as well as trying some new ones! And the best part of baking so many delicious foods? Eating them, of course!! Hmm-mm-m. Taco salads. Deep-dish-chocolate-chip-lava-cookies. Greek quesadillas. Melt in your mouth molasses cookies. Mexican lasagna. German pancake. Yeah...we definitely ate well.

But back to the quilt... [smile]

Here I am pinning seams in hopes of getting all the corners to (mostly) line up.

and a few hours later we were surveying our handiwork!



The [almost] finished baby quilt! Once I wash it, the flowers will rag adorably around the edges. In the meantime, it is in the process of getting quilted -- after which I'll post more pictures (that will hopefully include a sweet baby in them as well!)

New favorite [snack/dessert/sweet treat]

Completely unhealthy in any form or fashion, Dan and I have inhaled enjoyed these bars once (or twice...or maybe more). Quick to mix up, they are easy to bake and take. Simple, but very, very more-ish. If there are only two of you to devour the bars once they've cooled, I do recommend cutting this recipe in half and baking it in an 8x8 -- unless you have more self control than I do!

(and you thought my expanding waistline was 100% baby!)

Here's the recipe:

2 1/2 cups flour (I use a mixture of wheat & white flour)
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
1 C vegetable oil
1 C brown sugar
1/2 C sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 C (plus a handful) of butterscotch/chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350F. In medium bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt.

In another bowl, combine the oil and sugars. Mix well. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well in between additions. Stir in vanilla, then add the dry ingredients. Stir in chocolate & butterscotch chips. Spread mixture into a 9x13 pan.

Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a light golden brown.

Let cool completely before cutting; enjoy!

Working on 'before baby comes' goals -- one of which is organizing and scrapbooking our photographs from 2010 (and maybe 2011 as well; we'll see how it goes! I tend to be an over-achiever...)
Such precious memories! I stand amazed at the goodness of God and can't help but be thankful for the experiences and lessons He's given me.
