Godly womanhood

...the very phrase sounds strange in our ears. We never hear it now. We hear about every other type of women: beautiful women, smart women, sophisticated women, career women, talented women, divorced women. But so seldom do we hear of a godly woman - or of a godly man either, for that matter...
It is a much nobler thing to be a good wife, than to be Miss America. It is a greater achievement to establish a Christian home than it is to produce a second-rate novel filled with filth. It is a far, far better thing in the realms of morals to be old-fashioned, than to be ultra-modern.The world has enough women who know how to be smart. It needs women who are willing to be simple. The world has enough women who know how to be brilliant. It needs some who will be brave. The world has enough women who are popular. It needs more who are pure. We need women, and men, too, who would rather be morally right than socially correct.

Oh for people to see it more. The world, even the "Christian" world puts pressures on women today to to leave it behind. Thanks for that reminder Bethany!

What a great reminder to be what God calls us to be. It's so easy to get distracted from that in this world! Thanks Bethany.

Wow! Bethany...What gripping thoughts! I was especially blessed by the last paragragh. We need to be simple over smart--brave verses brilliant--pure instead of popular--and morally right rather than socially correct!

May we accept the grace of God to fulfill such fruit in our lives! Thank you for the encouragement. You're a blessing!

Amen! It is so true...on the subject, I think being a wife and mother is one of the most important jobs a woman could have! So many people put an emphasis on the "career" woman, ect.,! Thanks for posting!

that is so good Bethany - and has encouraged my heart time and time again. Just now it was an excellent reminder to me - since just over the weekend we were in the home of an aunt & uncle and my aunt (once again) tried to put pressures upon me.

She says "you should be taking some online courses." I finally asked her "why" and she said "well one day when you have to work full time...your husband might get incapacitated, etc,..." Oh goodness!! I'm going to be simple & not smart. :) And it's not like we aren't "smart" it's the "smartness" we have or the things we know how to do - they are looked down upon. So I came away from that small visit with her thinking "what can I say that will make her understand?" Well, personally I can't make her understand, but Lord willing there will be other opportunities to share things like this with her. It is something that must be close to each of our hearts.

And the pictures are absolutely gorgeous!!! You amaze me with your photography Bethany, and if I can ever come close to your skill and talent, that'd be amazing. :) I know the Lord has blessed you and as I seek to learn as well, I hope that I will bring glory to Him by what I do.

Thanks so much!! This was a long comment but it just came at such a perfect time (the post did) - thank you!!

Hello to the Bontragers!!
And no -- I have never seen the DVD "A Man Called Peter." I read this in a book that Catherine Marshall put together containing the best of Peter's sermons; I just wish I could post the whole sermon on here instead of just this little excerpt! :)

Blessings to you all!

I have one of the first edition books of "A Man Called Peter" and it's one of my most treasured books. It was the book I happened to be reading in Sept. 2001 when the towers were hit. I can't tell you how timely the words of Peter Marshall were to me and what a comfort, even 50 years later...He was a very wise man. His legacy continues today.

Hey Megan!

The book is called:
"Mr. Jones, Meet the Master"
and has, oh, maybe a dozen of Peter Marshall's best sermons. I haven't read them all yet... :) But what I have read is excellent!

Only a little over two weeks until camp!
