One thing

"I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ,
and Him crucified."
1 Corinthians 2:2

You don't have to know alot of things for your life to make a lasting difference in the world. But you do have to know one great thing, and then be willing to live and die for it.

The people that make a durable difference in the world are not the people who have mastered many things, but who have been mastered by one great thing.

If you want your life to count...you don't have to have a high IQ. You don't have to have good looks or riches or come from a fine family or school.

Instead you have to know one great, majestic, unchanging, obvious, simple, glorious thing -- and be set on fire by it.
-John Piper

That was so GOOD and so TRUE!!!

I've been hearing alot about John Piper lately from Alyssa ;-)(http://www.alyssaslittleblog.blogspot.com), but I'm not really familiar with him at all myself...
May we all have fire-y hearts for Jesus and His Kingdom!!!

I'm not very familiar with John Piper, either. I've only read one of his books -- "Don't Waste Your Life." It was an excellent book; the quote I shared was probably what challanged me the most.

There are so many things that cry out for my attention, yet only ONE THING really matters. And as I press into know HIM, the One, it is then that I can bear fruit for His sake and His glory. To realize that my works should be an outpouring of my love and passion for Jesus Christ; not the other way around!

Great quote, Bethany. My family enjoys listening to John Piper's sermons on the internet. They are powerful. I am interested in reading his Don't Waste Your Life. I have heard some great things about it.

Amen! Speaking about being set on fire, how many have come to Christ because of you?
We can have all the neat little and latest gimmicks.
We can canive and trick all we want.
We can try lifestyle evangelism.

But bottom line........
WHO IS GOING TO HEAVEN B/C YOU LED THEM?

It takes the Word of God- Romans 10:17
It takes a man/woman of God- Romans 10:14
It takes the power of God- Acts 1:8

Save your plans, promos, methods and gadgets. Get off your blessed assurance and go into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in!!

To be always consumed with God and not myself - that would be power and joy (and that is how it is in heaven!)

As soon as I started reading this quote, I thought - This sounds very familiar... I did not read it somewhere else, I heard it in a message by John Piper, with the same title. I listen to messages downloaded for free from oneplace.com/ministries/desiring_God
God has used his preaching in my life to feed my faith.

Thanks for sharing this!

Okay Bethany, so I'm a little behind the times on this post, but reading it again, and everyone's comments made me have to leave one!

What a powerful statement! Now I'm imspired to read the book! Such a beautiful, and challenging post. The picture fits so well, and helps with that 'being set on fire' exhortation!

Thank you, sis!

Hugs, and lovin'!
